Grade your efforts to participate in the learning process (i.e., attendance and participation in classroom sessions and activities). The highest score to be earned for 8 weeks is 80. Simply count the number of days you were present in class. Include excused absences that you incurred with proper notification and/or proof for reason of absence provided. Attendance and participation points should be 3 points each Monday and each Wednesday and 4 points each Friday. Do not give points to yourself on days you made unreasonable absences specially if your attendance has been plagued by some days of long absence or plagued by on and off presence in class. Count only the days you were present and days you were reasonably excused due to proper notification and/or proof provided.

Efforts to participate in the learning process: Attendance and Participation in classroom sessions and activities.

           77/80

Adding all your scores on the four areas above that you have ethically and fairly computed, write the total and divide it with 155. The resulting number will be your average so far from out of these four areas of grading we have covered.

 Overall Score: 149.5/155

         Average:  96.45%

Important Note:

1.      There is still a remaining total of 845 points to be computed from all other work categories. This means that you have all the big chances to gain a lot of points or lose a lot points depending on your efforts to make it well in this class.

2.      Your score for this Activity 1 will be based on your exercise of ethics or honesty in assessing your work performance. Remember that all works submitted are on file. Absences are properly recorded.

Activity 2: Make a qualitative Assessment of your learning progress in the second month or the last four weeks: Weeks 5, 6, 7, and 8 (September 21 to October 16). For 60 points, write or discuss your qualitative inventory and reflective analysis of valuable things, ideas and insights, leadership, and communication skills you have gained during this period based on all the lessons and learning activities covered to include lectures, discussions, activities, speech deliveries and evaluation sessions we had.  Important Note: You will be graded based on the substantial amount of ideas, knowledge,  skills, and insights you have accumulated for the period as can also be gauged through your performance and demonstrated efforts to take part in the learning process.

  • I have learned some much in this class since the first day during syllabus week. Before we started delivering our informative speeches I learned how to effectively deliver our speeches. I learned that we must let our audience now how creditable we are and our information we are putting out there. I also learned how to avoid plagiarism in our speeches. We were taught different techniques on how to cite our info; verbally and physically. I also remember learning how to become comfortable in front of my audience and be confident in what I’m saying. In doing so I must develop mastery in my information, know it inside and out. I really enjoyed the mini speech we gave when we told stories about what happen to us in the past. It really helped me to become a little more comfortable in front of an audience and gave me a feel of how it was going to be when I deliver my speech. We also covered the leadership aspect of our class, how to be an effective leader when put in that position. The number one thing that was very helpful to me in this class was the importance of communication and how we constantly communicate nonverbally and we don’t even realize it. When we are delivering our speeches we must keep in mind how our nonverbal gestures are coming off to our audience, whether we look confident, nervous, comfortable, approachable, or scared. We started to touch upon techniques for our persuasive speech that coming up. How the topic that we are going to be talking about is in relation to us and how important it is to us.

Activity 3: Reflect, give your grade goal and plan for action (20 points)

Based on the quality of learning as you have discussed in Activity 2 and  based on your work accomplishments as you have computed in Activity 1, make a discussion of the following:

1.      What are your areas of strengths such as time management, work ethics, diligence, attitude towards learning in this course, interest in gaining knowledge and skills from this course, etc.?

·         Some of my strengths were that when I do any type of assignment, I put my all into it. My work ethics was outstanding, I a great deal of research on my topic. Part of the reason why I was so productive was because the topic was a very personal topic to me and which made me even more interested about it. I learned enormous amount of information about “suicide” and found out how poorly I handled a previous situation before with one of my close friends. It was really an eye opener for me.

2.      What are your weak or problem areas that are affecting your performance and your learning progress, if there are any?

·         My weakness was that I have poor time management skills. I have tried to work on it in the past and its getting better; however I am known to be a procrastinator at times. I am not as bad as I was before but it still needs some work. Sometimes I think that I have too much time for an assignment and before I know it my time runs out. Instead of using that time to excel in my work further, I take advantage of it.

3.      What grade average or letter (example 86 or B or 95 or A) you have intended to obtain from this course within the period covered? Were you successful in obtaining this intended grade? Could you honestly say that you have endeavored well since the beginning of class to achieve this grade? If you have, what factors enabled you to begin right with this class? If you have not, what factors prevented you from giving your best efforts in order to obtain your aspired grade?

·         I believe I have the ability to get 100 in this class however I think I deserve at least a 90-95. I have handed in all my assignments in, however if I would have done those assignments ahead of time I would have put more time into the assignment. I’m not saying I was careless when it came to my assignment but I am saying it could have been better.

4.      In the final term, what grade average do you hope to obtain from this course? What obstacles do you foresee or anticipate that could possibly hinder your success in obtaining this grade? After pointing out possible obstacles, discuss what personal strategies you may employ to overcome these obstacles.

·         I hope to achieve 100 in this course, however like I noted before my time management and procrastination might hinder me from achieving that goal. I am working on this problem as we speak, I have completed this evaluation two days before it’s due. In my eyes that’s a start for me. In the future hopefully two days can turn into a week as long as I keep on working on it.

Important Note: Let the grading form or rubric help you meet the criteria for grading your work. Read and know from the rubric how you will be able to do your work in the manner that meets all the given criteria for each Activity.
